There are two main islands in Indonesia's archipelago that are crossed by the equatorial line, Sumatra and Kalimantan. Sumatra has 3 equatorial monuments, the most popular located is in Bonjol, the two others are in Kinali and Koto Alam, all three of these monuments are located in West Sumatra province that is well known as Minangkabau land or the Land of Matrilineal society. Every twice a year, we can witness the unique phenomena on the equatorial line. On the middle of the day, the sun reach the culmination point, equatorial monument and other things that stand straight up to the sun has no shadow, this event happens from 21-23 of March and 21-23 of September.

How to get to the province of West Sumatra?

west sumatra is easily accessible by flight from; Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Medan, from Singapore to Padang (Sin-Pdg) by tiger airways,

Malaysia to Padang (Kul-Pdg) by air asia and Jakarta to Padang (Cgk-Pdg) there are frequent flights such as: garuda, mandala, lion air, air asia and etc, the most reliable flight for domestic route is garuda, from Medan to Padang (Mes-Pdg) by mandala and batavia air
